A white shoot-through umbrella spreads soft light, a silver interior gives brighter, more contrasty light, and gold adds a warmer tone. Parabolic models let you control the light more precisely by changing the focus position. When choosing, look at the diameter: umbrellas range from about 105 to 185 cm, including black/white versions with a removable cover.
