▶ What is Digital ICE technology?

Digital ICE is technology that automatically removes dust and scratches from scanned slides. It uses infrared light to detect defects and then automatically corrects them without affecting image details. This technology significantly reduces post-processing time and provides cleaner results. Digital ICE works with all color slides and is especially effective for restoring old slides.

Frequently asked questions

The standard processing time is 1-3 business days depending on the volume and chosen quality:

  • For smaller volumes (up to 50 slides) - usually 1-2 business days
  • For larger projects or maximum quality scanning with Imacon Flextight - a longer time may be required
  • For urgent cases, contact us - we try to be accommodating

Yes! We specialize in the restoration of old slides:

  • During the scanning process, we can improve contrast and partially restore colors
  • Digital ICE technology automatically removes dust and minor defects
  • For full restoration, we offer professional digital processing

For more information about restoration services see: restoration section.

Slides are positive images with natural colors that can be viewed with light from behind. Negatives are inverted images with opposite colors.

  • Slide scanning uses different scanners and processes than negatives
  • Slides usually give higher contrast and more saturated colors
  • Slides are more sensitive to exposure errors during scanning
  • Each type requires specific processing for optimal results

Digital ICE is technology that automatically removes dust and scratches from scanned slides:

  • Uses infrared light to detect defects
  • Automatically corrects defects without affecting image details
  • Especially useful for old slides
  • Significantly reduces the need for manual retouching
  • Works with all color slides

Digital ICE is included in our standard scanning process at no extra charge.

The resolution choice depends on the intended use:

  • Standard quality (1037x1565px) - for internet needs, social networks
  • High quality (2048x3057px) - for printing up to A4 size
  • Maximum quality (4492x6774px) - for professional needs, large prints, archiving

For 120 format slides, the resolution is correspondingly larger. We recommend choosing higher quality if large prints may be needed in the future.

We offer two main formats:

  • JPEG - the optimal format for general needs, smaller file size, 8-bit color depth
  • TIFF - a professional format, lossless, available in 8-bit or 16-bit color depth

16-bit TIFF format provides wider possibilities for color and contrast corrections, but creates significantly larger files. Ideal for professional projects and further processing.

Yes, we also specialize in the scanning of problematic slides:

  • Old slides with faded colors - we perform color correction and contrast enhancement
  • Scratched slides - Digital ICE technology automatically removes most scratches
  • Dusty slides - professional cleaning and Digital ICE processing

Important: expect that old slides may be scratched and have faded colors. For more complex cases, we offer additional restoration services.

In case of damaged mounts we offer the following solutions:

  • If the mounts can be carefully disassembled - we perform scanning and try to reassemble them
  • If the mounts break during disassembly - we offer putting the slides in new mounts for €0.10 per mount
  • For heavily damaged mounts - we can scan the slides without the mounts using special masks

We always inform the customer about the condition of the mounts before starting work.

Our scanners are optimized for different tasks:

  • Noritsu HS-1800 - the fastest option, ideal for large volumes, Digital ICE, up to 4492x6774px
  • Konica DS-1000 - specialized for mounted slides, precise focus calibration
  • Imacon Flextight Precision II - premium quality, drum technology, up to 5760 dpi, museum-level results
  • Epson V750 Pro - the economical option for large volumes

Each scanner is chosen according to the specific slide type and the required quality.

The prices depend on slide type and quality:

  • Uncut slides: €4.50-19.90 per film (depending on quality)
  • Slides in mounts: €0.75-3.00 per frame (depending on volume and quality)
  • Premium scanning with Imacon: €7.50 per frame
