▶ What is Digital ICE technology?

Digital ICE is technology that automatically removes dust and scratches from scanned images. It uses infrared light to detect defects and then automatically corrects them without affecting image details. This technology significantly reduces post-processing time and provides cleaner results. Important: Digital ICE does not work with traditional black and white films containing silver, but works with chromogenic C-41 (for example, Ilford XP2) black and white films.

  • • Additional charge for special processing: €1.00/film

Frequently asked questions

We scan all popular film formats:

  • 135 (35mm) - standard photo films
  • 120 - medium format films (6x4.5, 6x6, 6x7, 6x9, 6x12)
  • 127 - retro medium format films
  • 110 - small format films (manual only)
  • 4x5 inch - large format sheet films
  • 8x10 inch - extra large format sheet films

Professional scanning with different quality levels is available for all formats.

We offer three quality levels:

  • Standard quality - suitable for 10x15cm prints (135: 1037x1565px)
  • High quality - suitable for 15x23cm prints (135: 2048x3057px)
  • Maximum quality - for large format prints (135: 4492x6774px)

Higher resolution means more expensive scanning. Scanning whole films is more economical than individual frames. Each scanner is suitable for different needs: Noritsu is fast for daily work, Konica can scan manually frame by frame, Imacon provides maximum quality, Nikon is used as a quality backup solution.

Scanning usually takes 1-3 business days, but often it is faster. Standard scanning with Noritsu can be completed within a day.

For larger volumes or more complex projects (for example, Imacon drum scanning), longer time may be required. The processing time depends on the overall workload and scanning complexity.

Yes, we scan damaged and old films, but usually in manual mode frame by frame.

Old curled films should be unrolled in the opposite direction before submission and kept for at least a week to straighten out.

Often such films cannot be scanned automatically and must be scanned manually frame by frame with the Konica DS-1000 scanner. An additional charge may be applied for the scanning of damaged films - €1.00 per film if automatic scanning is possible, if not, then €0.75-€2.00 per each manually scanned frame.

Digital ICE is advanced technology that automatically removes dust and scratches from scanned images.

It uses infrared light to identify defects in film emulsion, and then digitally corrects them without affecting image details. This technology significantly reduces the need for manual retouching and provides cleaner, more professional results.

Digital ICE works with all color films and chromogenic black and white films (for example, Ilford XP2) but does not work with traditional silver black and white films.

We offer different file formats depending on your needs:

  • JPEG - standard format, smaller file size, suitable for general use
  • TIFF - lossless format, higher quality, suitable for professional processing
  • 3F - Imacon raw format (only for Imacon scanning), which is like 16-bit TIFF with color correction possibilities

The customer can choose desired format when submitting film for scanning. 8-bit or 16-bit color space is also available.

Yes, we also scan cut films, but it costs slightly more than scanning uncut films.

Cut films can be automatically scanned if they are in strips of 3 or more frames. Films with 2 or 1 frames must be scanned manually.

For example, scanning of uncut 135 film costs €4.50 (standard quality) whereas the scanning of cut film costs €6.50. The additional charge is related to increased work volume and need for manual processing.

The maximum resolution depends on scanner type:

  • Noritsu HS-1800: 135 films - 4492x6774px (~30MP), 120 films - up to 4912x9794px
  • Imacon Flextight Precision II: optical resolution up to 5760 dpi with 4.1 Dmax, providing excellent detail and dynamic range
  • Nikon Coolscan 9000ED: 4000 dpi optical resolution
  • Konica DS-1000: a quality comparable to HS-1800 but slower processing

Maximum quality scans are suitable for large format prints and professional processing.

Yes, we offer a wide range of scanning services:

  • Slide scanning - both uncut film and mounted slides (view service)
  • Photo scanning - old photos, documents, reflective materials (view service)
  • Film development - C-41, E-6, black and white and ECN-2 films
  • Photo restoration - digital restoration of old and damaged images
  • File processing and color correction - digital image post-processing

Consultation and an individual approach is available for all services.

We offer various file delivery options:

  • USB flash drive - record files on your or our USB (€1.00 fee)
  • CD or DVD - record on optical discs
  • WeTransfer - send files by email for large volumes
  • Online - upload to our server for viewing

Files are kept in archive for a certain time so they can be retrieved again if needed. Choose the most convenient method when submitting film for scanning.

Yes, we regularly scan old films from the 1980s and even older. Old films are often curled, fogged or with damaged perforations.

In such cases, we use a specialized approach:

  • Manual scanning with Konica DS-1000
  • Individual processing for each frame
  • Special techniques for straightening curled films

Before submission, it is recommended to unroll the films in the opposite direction and keep them for a week. Additional charge for old films - €1.00 per film.

Index print (an overview with all frames) from film:

  • 10x15cm size - free when ordering scanning
  • 20x30cm size - €1.50

Index print is a convenient way of viewing all the frames on one page and select the best ones for further processing or printing. It is especially useful when working with large film volumes.

Digital ICE works with most films, but there are some limitations:

Works with:

  • All color C-41 films
  • Chromogenic black and white films (for example, Ilford XP2, Kodak BW400CN)
  • E-6 slides

Does not work with:

  • Traditional silver halide black and white films
  • Very old films with silver content

This technology uses infrared light, which cannot 'see' through silver in traditional black and white films.
