The adapter allows you to work in manual mode - it does not transfer automatic settings. The aperture value can only be adjusted from the lens (if it has a ring to change its value). Some camera systems and models also support Aperture priority (A/Av) mode. The adapter allows you to focus to the full extent, even indefinitely.
