Lenses

Lenses are the heart of any photographer's or videographer's kit – they determine the angle of view, sharpness and character of the image. In this section lenses are grouped by camera type: mirrorless camera lenses, SLR camera lenses, video lenses and smartphone lenses.

When choosing a lens, first check its mount – it must match your camera. Then decide on the focal length: wide-angle lenses suit landscapes and interiors, standard lenses everyday shooting and portraits, telephoto lenses sports and wildlife. The maximum aperture (f or T value) affects low-light performance and background blur, while for video lenses a smooth focus ring is also important.
