About Cokin
Cokin is a filter manufacturer founded in 1972. The innovative square filter system created by Jean Coquin in 1978 was the first in the world to offer such easy combining and changing of several filters at the same time. Almost 40 years have passed, yet nothing has changed: it is still the most convenient and easiest-to-use system in the world, cloned and copied countless times. Since 2011 it has been part of the Kenko Tokina group (Hoya, Pentax, Ricoh, Nissin).

Cokin Creative System
These filters are intended for use in both the photo and video worlds. The filter is placed in front of the lens to modulate the amount of light, colour, contrast and saturation that reaches the sensor or film. It also lets you control both shutter speed and depth of field. If you often hear "But we have Photoshop now", keep in mind that using filters is a completely different philosophy from software post-processing. Filters are used at the moment of shooting or filming, and the results are visible immediately. Using a filter takes a mere 3 seconds, while achieving the desired effect in post-processing can take hours. Once you count the time saved, using filters becomes a matter of course. Time is also not the only cost of intensive post-processing: it often requires very powerful computer hardware (especially for video) and expensive software, whereas the cost of a filter kit is negligible by comparison. A photograph is created at the moment the frame is captured, not in post-processing!

Materials
Cokin Creative System filters are made of CR39® polymer, which is widely used in the optics industry (for example, in eyeglasses). This is mainly thanks to its durability and to its optical light transmission, which is considerably higher than that of polycarbonate (except for the Creative System polarising filter, which is made of glass). Even fully loaded, the weight of the filter system is barely noticeable, so working with the camera is as comfortable as before, and the system's low weight burdens neither manual focusing nor the autofocus motor. Changing a filter takes only 3 seconds.

Use
One of the main advantages of the Cokin Creative System is that you do not need a filter for every lens; it is enough to buy an adapter ring in the diameter of the particular lens. The Cokin filter system has three components: the adapter ring, the filter holder and the filters. The adapter ring is screwed into the lens filter thread, the filter holder is attached to it, and 1-3 filters are placed in the holder in various combinations. The filter system is available in different sizes, depending on the filter thread of the lens used:

A series: 36mm - 62mm lenses (size S)
P series: 48mm - 82mm lenses (size M - the most popular Cokin system)
Z-Pro series: 52mm - 96mm lenses (size L)
Z-PRO series: 62mm - 112mm lenses (size XL)

The H3H0-25 kit includes three graduated ND filters and a filter holder; the only thing you will need is an adapter ring of the right size

P121L Cokin M Light graduated neutral grey (GND) filter ND2
Graduated neutral grey (GND) filters reduce the amount of light in a particular part of the frame (gradually). Very often a sky that is too bright, contrasting with a dark subject, means that either the sky is overexposed and featureless or the subject is too dark and lacks detail. GND filters solve this problem. The P121L reduces the amount of light by a factor of two (by 1 stop). The P121L is "densest" at the top of the filter (1 stop), and the transition is very gradual all the way to the bottom edge. Graduated filters are larger than standard square filters so that, by moving the filter up or down in the holder, you can choose the part of the frame to which the ND effect is applied.

P121M Cokin M Light graduated neutral grey (GND) filter ND2
Graduated neutral grey (GND) filters reduce the amount of light in a particular part of the frame (gradually). Very often a sky that is too bright, contrasting with a dark subject, means that either the sky is overexposed and featureless or the subject is too dark and lacks detail. GND filters solve this problem. The P121M reduces the amount of light by a factor of four (by 2 stops). The P121M is "densest" at the top of the filter (2 stops), and the transition is very gradual all the way to the bottom edge. Graduated filters are larger than standard square filters so that, by moving the filter up or down in the holder, you can choose the part of the frame to which the ND effect is applied.

P121S Cokin M Light graduated neutral grey (GND) filter ND2
Graduated neutral grey (GND) filters reduce the amount of light in a particular part of the frame (gradually). Very often a sky that is too bright, contrasting with a dark subject, means that either the sky is overexposed and featureless or the subject is too dark and lacks detail. GND filters solve this problem. The P121S reduces the amount of light by a factor of eight (by 3 stops). The P121S is "densest" at the top of the filter (2 stops), and the transition is very gradual (3/4 of the filter). Graduated filters are larger than standard square filters so that, by moving the filter up or down in the holder, you can choose the part of the frame to which the ND effect is applied.

BPW-400 Cokin M size filter holder for wide-angle lenses
The BPW-400 filter holder is a basic component of the Cokin Creative System. It is designed to hold 3 Cokin M size filters (or 2 + 1 polarising filter) so that the filter effects can be combined. It attaches to the lens with adapter rings, available in sizes from 48mm - 82mm. The main advantage of the system is that one holder with an adapter ring can be attached to any lens whose focal length is not wider than 20mm (in 35mm format).

Each Cokin filter is wrapped in a microfibre cloth that prevents the filter from being scratched and can be used to clean the filter.
